I'm currently building a 305/nv3500 powered 1984 Ford Ranger, just a weekend toy, probably never going to see the strip but once or twice when i get a wild hair.

The real oddball is the 1987-95 pattern that looks like the 55-86 pattern but uses a different angle on the plenum bolts. The #462 has got the normal approx. 64cc chamber and the #461 (x) has got a bit smaller one with approx. 60,5cc. Just as Scooter said. So with the same pistons you get more compression (=power or problems... with the #461 (x) heads.
